This lesson deals with Nationwide Credit Corporation of Alexandria, VA.  I did not find much in a web search, except for their own website.  So, let’s take a look at what they say about themselves.  I include the link so you can see it for yourself.

When the site’s “up”, that is!  ;D (Emphasis mine.):

Nationwide Credit Corporation (NCC) was founded in 1967, by Phil Rosenthal. To this day, Phil remains at the helm as company President after building one of the most respected collection agencies in the United States. The ingredients for success at NCC are excellent recovery percentages and the highest levels of ongoing customer service, while always operating in strict compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).
Ah…here begins the (probable) lies.   And, they haven’t gotten past the first paragraph!

Why Choose Nationwide Credit Corporation

Oh, so you are also a credit counseling agency?

Interaction with our clients on a regular basis, meaning that they are up to date on all developments concerning all accounts. This improves results and customer service.

Who’s the clients and who are the customers?  I doubt that the alleged debtors they are (likely)  harassing fall into either category!

Online at the American Collector's Association (ACA). NCC is an important member. This means that we "…comply with all federal and state laws and regulations, as well as the ethical standards and guidelines established by the organization". (ACA).

Yes, I believe that the ACA membership means you are an ethical agency.

I also believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy!

Debt recovery percentages at NCC are among the highest in the industry.

They both obey the law AND collect that really high percentage of delinquent accounts?  Knowing CAs, what is wrong with this picture?

Yes, it’s a great place to work.  For about 36 hours! (CAs are rarely good places to work.)  Don’t let the clients know, though, that our work force turns over far faster than a compost heap.  And, for far less benefit to them.

Your Contacts at NCC

Account Executives

Each client, no matter how small, is assigned to one of our Executives, who will act as the principle point of liaison. Your representative will contact you monthly, providing status reports and updates, and generally assisting with any questions that you may have.

Customer Service Representatives

NCC also has a team of Customer Service Representatives (CSR) who are always available to assist you or amend your accounts, if and when the need arises.

Namely, nobody is “at home”.  Especially if services are needed by  the alleged debtors…customers!  :o

Handling your Accounts

The clerical staff at NCC receive and log our client's accounts within 24 hours of receipt. They are immediately assigned to an 'Industry Specific' (IS) Collection Team. For example, a Medical IS team works exclusively with medical accounts.  At NCC, staff turnover is among the lowest in the industry, allowing our collectors to specialize in specific fields, meaning a level of expertise that maximizes your return.

That simply means that the average collector might stay there six months, instead of six weeks!

Collection Managers

Each collection team reports to a manager. Collection managers train their teams to operate strictly within the laws of the Fair Debt and Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). Managers also motivate their team to full potential, providing advice and solutions to daily issues which arise, and of course, assisting in the collection of your money.

In other words, our supervisors (who have been there only about six months longer than anyone else) make sure that the "lying, cheating, and stealing" meets company standards.

So you can get your money…and we get our “cut”.  In time to make the month’s “numbers”

Did you notice how often they harp on how well they obey the FDCPA?  You know what that really means, don’t you?  Hey, they even quote part of it in the next section!  Guess their attorneys are watching…;)

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act was passed in 1977 and is enforced by the Federal Trade Commission. It is a 13 page document which sets forth a number of strict guidelines designed to protect the consumer from abusive, misleading and unfair debt collection practices.

Under Section 806, entitled Harassment and Abuse (15 USC 1692d), the FDCPA states that

"a collector may not engage in any conduct the natural consequence of which is to harass, oppress, or abuse any person in the connection with the collection of a debt. For example, the use or threat of violence or any other criminal means to harm the physical person, reputation, or property of any person."

The policy at NCC is to abide by this law.
Our collectors are trained to work successfully within its framework.

If you believe this, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale…!

They also tout their membership in the “American Collectors’ Association” all the time.As if that was a goodthing…!

<<snip>>As a member of the American Collector's Association, NCC has agreed to comply with all the federal and state laws and regulations, as well as the ethical standards and guidelines established by the organization. In return, the ACA acts as a watchdog to protect us, so we can in turn, do the same to protect you.

Oh, yeah?  Watchdogs for them[/i], all right!   To protect whom? How many of us complain to the authorities…or sue…and end up dealing with one of the ACA’s shysters…not those of the CA?  But, give these guys a little credit:  They admit it!

BUT...I could use more information.  Anyone ever deal with these guys?  If so, what happened?
