« on: July 11, 2017 09:39:09 PM »
I have only a phone number for a firm I would like to sue. How to I get the name of the firm?

Did you google the number?   Just a note:  If googling the number doesn't reveal the name of the caller, that can indicate it's a scam and suing would be a waste of your time and money.

I believe it is a collector. Google search doesn't turn up anything. They answer the phone there so it is a live number. They did identify as debt collectors.

Then ask the name of the company and do some research.

Call at midnight when you can expect to get an answering machine message.

I believe it is for an old Credit One card that is out of SOL. I am assuming Sherman collects their own debt.

Call them and ask? Use questions like:

Who do I make the check payable to? (to get the company's name)

Where do I send the check? (to get their address)

BTW-the Flyingifr Method does work. (quoted from Hannah on Infinite Credit, September 19, 2006)

I think of a telephone as a Debt Collector's crowbar. With such a device it is possible to pry one's mouth open wide enough to allow the insertion of a foot or two.
